Rev (they/them) is a member of Sparrow’s Hiring team. Let’s get to know Rev!

How did you get to where you are?

For a long time, I didn’t know what I wanted my future to look like. I hopped from goal to goal – veterinarian, geneticist, gender therapist, etc. – with my only certainty being that I wanted to do something that would help others. After COVID hit, that want turned into a necessity for me. My friends and I decided to move up to NorCal together, where we could save up and plan for our goal of one day buying some land that we could turn into a place that people and animals in need could come for shelter, home-grown food, and a chance to learn skills they could take with them into their future. To do this, though, I needed a new job – preferably one that I could enjoy throughout the many years it will likely take for my friends and me to reach our goal. When I came across Sparrow, I was thrilled to find a company with such a clear and genuine desire to help people in their times of need. I’m so glad to now be a member of Sparrow’s hiring team, helping to grow a diverse and dedicated group of people who all share that desire to help others.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’ve moved around a lot in my life! I was born in Ontario, Canada, and have lived in a few different cities and states in the US. All in all, I think the total count is around 13 or 14 moves in a little over 20 years!

What did your team do to support you in your first month?

Anything and everything they could, it seemed like! From my first day, I had many messages from the team welcoming me and offering to help if I ever had any questions. Throughout my onboarding and training, it was very clear that anything I needed was just an ask away.

What are you most excited about for your role in the next 6 months?

I originally started at Sparrow as an Internal Ops team member, and as part of that role, began helping the hiring team with process improvement and coordination. After a few months, and learning more about recruiting, I realized that I really enjoyed the work. The Sparrow team is always extremely supportive of personal and professional goals, so the transition began soon after I asked about working in hiring officially. I look forward to learning more about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), improving our interview process, and growing the Sparrow team!

What are you doing this weekend?

Putting together some furniture for the apartment, taking my pup to her favorite dog park, and playing DnD with friends!

What’s the last show you binge-watched?

Star Trek Voyager! I used to watch Next Generation and Deep Space Nine with my Dad, so when my roommate booted up an episode of Voyager recently, I was curious. Now I’m halfway through season 2 and excited for more!
